DECKEE is designed to help you plan, prepare and improve your situational awareness on the water. Some of the most beneficial capabilities and safety features of DECKEE require access to your location 'Always' to work properly.
The following features will only work if location access is set to 'Always':
On-Water Detection Safety Alerts – Automatically notify your friends or family when you head out on the water so they can follow your GPS location in real-time for safety purposes, without you having to remember to do anything.
Automatic Logbook – Automatically record your activity on the water and save it to your logbook in DECKEE, without you having to remember to do anything. DECKEE will smartly detects when you are on the water and when you return to land.
If you don't want to benefit from these capabilities, you may choose to update your location permissions to "Only while using the app" in your device settings. This will still enable you to use some of DECKEE's functionality, including maps, weather, manual activity logging, prepare checklists and more.
What happens if you do not allow DECKEE to access your location
DECKEE is fundamentally a location based app. If you do not wish to share your location with DECKEE, you are likely to have a sub-optimal experience using the app and be unable to use certain functions.
Battery Usage and Optimisation in the DECKEE App
The DECKEE app uses your device’s sensors and location services to provide real-time, situational information, similar to how navigation apps work on the road. This allows us to deliver accurate and automated logging, safety alerts, and a personalised experience tailored to your time on the water.
Because of these features, the app may use more battery than typical background apps from time to time. That said, battery performance is something we’re always monitoring and improving. We use the app ourselves and don’t like excessive battery drain either, so rest assured, we’re constantly working to make DECKEE as battery-efficient as possible!
To help optimise performance, make sure you’re running the latest version of DECKEE and keep your device software up to date. Closing other location-heavy apps can also help conserve power.
