Does DECKEE work offline or when you are out of mobile range?

Updated today

DECKEE uses an internet or mobile connection for most of its core features, such as maps, weather updates, and community reports.

What works offline

If you start a trip in the app before heading out, the logging feature will keep capturing your GPS track in the background, even without mobile coverage.

Once your device reconnects, DECKEE will automatically upload your recorded data so your full journey appears in your logbook.

For DECKEE users in Western Australia, the Log On Log Off feature will still send you critical notifications about your Plan even when you do not have mobile or wi-fi connectivity. However, you will need to contact Marine Rescue WA by marine radio to let them know of any changes to your Plan while you are out of mobile range.

About mobile coverage on the water

While there are some inland and coastal areas with limited or no mobile coverage, network range is constantly expanding, and the vast majority of recreational water activities happen within a few nautical miles of the coastline, where cellular service is generally available.

This means the vast majority of DECKEE users can enjoy full access to live maps, weather, and safety information throughout their activities.

Summary

Although DECKEE doesn’t yet offer full offline support, you can still rely on Trip Logging to record your GPS journey if you temporarily lose signal. We’re always exploring ways to enhance DECKEE’s reliability and usability, wherever your adventures take you.
